Development is the Donut. And NGOs are the Hole.

I wrote this (unfinished) post last early August. I had plans to seek more data, tidy it up and publish it in a more reputable venue, but it's six months later now and time to let this one go. Enjoy.

Psst...wanna buy a drone? Marco Cáceres' company's peace-promotion

Honduras Weekly, Marco Cáceres' evangelical golpista soapbox disguised as a newspaper is now publishing primarily reprints, including the ever-trustworthy Drug-War cheerleaders at InSight. Meanwhile, the USAID and DoD-funded sex-offender socio is busy back home in Virginia at Teal Group, helping prepare Honduras for even more democracy than it got from the "Good Coup" by marketing drones (doubtless coming soon to the Moskitia).

Oaktown event

I have a chapter in this book (coming out in November) with some interviews from Honduran activists.

Honduras "no longer functioning"

Honduras can't pay its bills, neglects services is the title of the Huffington Post's version of Alberto Arce's latest article. NBC is more blunt, with its Honduras 'no longer functioning' after plunging over fiscal cliff. But Honduras hasn't been functioning for a while (in the sense meant here).

With the Help of the US Military, the Persecution and Manhunt of Campesinos Continues

Translation of yesterday's MUCA communique (below) from Greg McCain:

The wave of persecutions of the peasants of the Bajo Aguán is lived day to day. Today Tiburcio Diaz (57), a business partner of La Lempira cooperative belonging to the Unified Campesino Movement of the Aguan (MUCA), was arrested by members of the Police at 3:00 pm on his way to the livestock area in the same settlement.
