HONDURAS COUP LINKS
I'm compiling all of Oscar's posts together to have as a static link on this site, and as part of that I'm catching up on the first few that I missed. Here's the first of them, posted Tuesday, 30 June 2009 at 11:07:
At the same time that Micheletti's de facto government prepares itself for what they call a "diplomatic advance" seeking to correct the "mistake" of the 200 countries of the world that according to him are mistaken in believing that what happened in Honduras is a coup, we are preparing once again to take the streets. More organizations have declared themselves to be in resistance all throughout the country. Currently there are more people resisting the coup than all the combined votes for Mel Zelaya in the previous elections. This shows that more than wanting the return of this tragic administration, we want a true democracy and things cannot continue as they are. The media is not reporting on what happened yesterday in the streets. It doesn't say that the highways were blockaded, that whole towns have risen up in rebellion and groups arming themselves against the de facto power. The media says we are only a few, and that we are paid by Chavez's money. That we can't last long with this stance and that today there will be no protest because the say we support Micheletti. The media says lots of things without saying anything at all.
Today, more people than yesterday will come out to confront the army. There will be more violence in the streets. There will be more injured. Because we don't believe in the media anymore. Because they no longer control a people raised up in resistance. We go on calling for peaceful demonstrations, we wish with all our heart that blood will not be shed, but we know the bloodthirsty nature of our army and its national security doctrine of the 21st century. We march forward, because we firmly believe that history is calling us.

¡no pasarán!
