Tonight 26 of our brothers and sister await the decision of the judge who will evaluate the evidence presented by the D.A. and will determine if they can go home or will be convicted of the crimes of Terrorism, Sedition, Rebellion, Illicit Association, Robbery, Arson and who knows what other crimes. It is likely that they will send them to the National Penitentiary for the period of legal inquiry which is six days, before initiating their respective trials. It's likely that they will judge them and declare them guilty based on absurd "evidence" that will only reinforce the legal farce in which we live. With this we will have political prisoners. Our first prisoners, men and women, of a dictatorship that fully applies the [CIA] counterinsurgency manual.

It's clear that although the government of Micheletti has lost all hope of being accepted by Latin American countries--today the ambassadors of Argentina and Chile were recalled in a clear show of condemnation of the regime--and although within the United States they seem to making certain diplomatic gains through the work of lobbyists who have exposed the face of imperialism of Obama's government, which differs little from that of his dreadful predecessor, and although more concrete sanctions that would truly impact the economic structures of the coup regime have not been implemented, international terrain continues to be controlled by Zelaya.

But the interest of this government is not so much in controlling the international arena. It's clear that they can achieve little and although they maintain hope that their publicity campaigns seeking to change the image of and gain approval for the regime will succeed, their true problem now is internal.

The gamble that the political class is making revolves around the general elections of next November. Certain that following his election, the new president will be able to open diplomatic spaces that will normalize international relations in economic terms, they have put all their efforts into focusing the population on the political campaign that is not taking off despite having been inaugurated on two separate occasions in the past month. The Honduran people simply don't want to hear anything about political campaigns.

Furthermore, little by little the discourse and the interest of the resistance has changed and this is what scares them now. Mel Zelaya is no longer the main interest of the popular sectors and although there are elements that seek to channel the entire resistance into the electoral campaign, this initiative does not enjoy the approval of the base. How can we participate in elections that ignore us as a group? What guarantees can this government give us? How can they think they could legitimate their regime through a popular vote? The interest of the resistance now is in the constituent assembly and that does scare them.

After 46 days of nationwide resistance the dominant classes have recognized that, even if it was not clearly articulated at the beginning, there exists a solid social base of organizations that sustain this effort. It is not an improvised resistance, as they thought at the start; it is all of the popular sectors, who have now gone from focusing on their own demands to coalescing around the cause of fighting the common enemy that the coup d'etat underscored: an oligarchy willing to do whatever it takes to prevent the advancement of the people. What people on the continent can individually name their class enemy? [translators note: i.e., the oligarchy in Honduras consists of such a small group that its members' names are known to all]

And judicial actions are among the tactics of the oligarchy. The government needs political prisoners, not so much to reduce street actions, which they well know will not be the result--rather, the opposite will happen, as more people will mobilize to help free our comrades--they need them to be able to later negotiate a general amnesty. A pardon for all political crimes including, according to them, tortures and assassinations, repression and harassment to which they have submitted us in recent weeks in return for the freedom of the men and women that they hold in their cells.

But they know that if the threat of judicial action doesn't work and they start to fill teir cells with political prisoners, the regime will move to a new phase within the CIA manual: the assassination of resistance leaders as an attempt to create terror among us all.

For the freedom and in honor of my friend Alba Ochoa and the other political prisoners, we will go on resisting.

Esta noche 26 compañeros y compañeras esperan la decisión del juez que evaluará las pruebas presentadas por la fiscalía y dirá si vuelven a casa o pasan a ser imputados de los delitos de Terrorismo, Sedición, Rebelión, Asociación Ilícita, Robo, Incendio y quien sabe que delitos más. Es probable que los manden a la Penitenciaría Nacional por el tiempo legal para inquirir que es de seis días y luego inicien el respectivo juicio. Es probable que los juzguen y los declaren culpables basados en pruebas absurdas que no hacen sino remarcar la farsa legal en donde vivimos. Con esto tendremos presos políticos. Nuestros primeros presos y presas políticas de una dictadura que aplica el manual antisubversivo plenamente.

Está claro que si bien el Gobierno de Micheletti ha perdido las esperanzas de lograr alguna aceptación por parte de los países latinoamericanos, hoy mismo han sido expulsados los embajadores hondureños de Argentina y Chile en muestra clara de rechazo al régimen y si bien al interior de los Estados Unidos parecen estar ganando cierto espacio diplomático con el trabajo de lobistas que han puesto al desnudo la cara imperialista del gobierno de Obama, que poco difiere de la de su nefasto antecesor, y aunque no se ha logrado la implementación de sanciones más concretas que afecten de forma real las estructuras económicas del golpismo, el terreno internacional sigue siendo controlado por Zelaya.

Pero el interés de este gobierno no es ya tanto el control del plano internacional, está claro que poco pueden lograr y aunque no dejan las esperanzas de un cambio producto de las campañas publicitarias que buscan cambiar la imagen y aprobación de régimen, el verdadero problema que tienen ahora es interno.

La apuesta desde de la clase política gira alrededor de las elecciones generales del próximo noviembre. Seguros que luego de electo el nuevo presidente podrán abrir espacios diplomáticos que llevará a la normalización de las relaciones internacionales en materia económica, han puesto todo su esfuerzo en meter a la población en la campaña política que no logra arrancar pese a haber lanzado su convocatoria en dos ocasiones distintas en el último mes. El pueblo hondureños simplemente no quiere escuchar nada de campañas políticas.

Además, poco a poco el discurso y el interés de la resistencia han ido cambiando y esto es ahora lo que les asusta. Ya no es Mel Zelaya el interés principal de los sectores populares y aunque hay elementos que buscan meter a la resistencia de lleno en la campaña electoral, lo cierto es que esa iniciativa no goza de la aprobación de las bases: ¿cómo participar en unas elecciones que nos niega como grupo?, ¿Qué garantía puede este gobierno presentarnos?, ¿Cómo pensar en legitimar un régimen a través del voto popular? El interés ahora de la resistencia es la constituyente y eso sí les asusta.

Luego de cuarenta y seis días de resistencia a nivel nacional las clases dominantes han reconocido que, si bien poco articulados en el inicio, existe una sólida base social de las organizaciones que mantienen este esfuerzo. No es una resistencia improvisada, como ellos pensaron en un inicio, sino que son todos los sectores populares, que ahora han pasado de defender sus propias reivindicaciones, a acoger una causa aglutinadora como es el golpe de estado reconociendo ahora un enemigo común: una oligarquía dispuesta a llegar a las últimas consecuencias con tal de impedir el avance del pueblo al poder. ¿Que pueblo del continente reconoce con nombre y apellido a su enemigo de clase?

Y entre las acciones de la Oligarquía están las judiciales. El gobierno necesita de presos políticos, no tanto para menguar las acciones callejeras, que bien saben no ocurrirá sino lo contrario, más gente comenzará ahora a movilizarse por la liberalización de nuestros camaradas, los necesita para poder luego negociar una amnistía general. Un perdón de todos los delitos políticos incluyendo, según ellos, las torturas y asesinatos, la represión y el acoso a que nos han sometido las últimas semanas a cambio de la libertad de los hombres y mujeres que mantienen en sus calabozos.

Pero saben que si la amenaza de la causa judicial no funciona y comienzan a llenar las celdas de prisioneros políticos, el régimen pasará a una etapa nueva del manual de la CIA: el asesinato de líderes de la resistencia como un intento de crear terror en todos nosotros.

Por la liberación y en honor a mi amiga Alba Ochoa y demás presos políticos, seguiremos resistiendo.
