Worried about his negative image following the coup d'etat of June 28, and with the guidance of Liberal Party strategists, candidate Elvin Santos decided to hire a group of U.S. experts to help him improve his poll numbers. One of the first PR strategies they recommended to him was to go to the facilities of UNAH [the National Autonomous University of Honduras], an institution that up to now had remained at the margin of the different political activities of the country.

Santos arrived for an award ceremony for students being recognized for academic excellence, where he was supposedly going to give a talk about the value of tolerance, study and hard work for the development of Honduras. But he didn't get to do it. Immediately a group of students met him with signs and shouts of "Golpista," "Assassin," "Traitor." The plan was aborted and he decided to leave the building; upon leaving he was received with water and more shouts. His bodyguards, doing what they know best, pulled out their weapons, threatening the students and shooting into the air. The images show six of Santos's men charging at a young student and beating him with the butts of their pistols. The image is on the internet now, and Santos keeps falling. I don't think the image consultants knew how to do their job as well as the bodyguards knew how to do theirs.

Today the same students who met Elvin Santos yesterday organized a street blockade in the avenue in front of the university campus. Minutes after forming he blockade, the repressive agents of the Cobra Squad who immediately began dislodging the students. The struggle lasted several minutes, and the students, seeking refuge, went inside the university, trusting in the fact that for years it has been off limits to the police. But the university's autonomy didn't make a difference this time. The Cobras went inside the campus chasing and beating everyone in their path. The provost Julieta Castellanos, joined by the rest of the internationally respected academic, intellectual and professional leadership--respected precisely for neutral stance in the conflict--came out of her office to speak with the officers in charge of the operation and to ask them to respect the facilities of UNAH. She and the others were shoved, beaten and teargassed. Julieta Castellanos, Provost of the highest institution of learning in this country, was beaten by several riot police who certainly hadn't been through elementary school. While beating the academics, the agents shouted that they were tired of all this shit, that they didn't care anymore and they would take down whoever they wanted.

The National Autonomous University of Honduras, known in days gone by for being one of the most militant institutions in the country's national political scene, had determined to not support the resistance and direct its efforts toward recuperating its lost academic excellence. Once again the police itself has done the work of bringing different sectors together into one bloc. Welcome, university compañeros, to the Resistance Front against the Coup D'Etat.

On the other hand and as a strategy for condemning the coup, the resistance decided to hit the coup class where it hurts them the most: their money. Hundreds of bills reading, among other things, "no to the coup," and "Down with Micheletti" are now circulating. The Central Bank, communicating by way of the principal radio and television stations, announced that it would not accept any "defaced" bills and that it would sue anyone in the resistance who carried such bills because, according to the economists, it is an attack against the national economy and can be treated as a crime.

Today marked the start of the great resistance march, which will arrive to the principal cities next Tuesday. The government has not fallen yet, but we all know it cannot hold itself up for much longer.

Preocupado por la mala imagen con que cuenta el candidato Elvin Santos, luego del golpe de estado del 28 de junio, y asesorado por los estrategas del Partido Liberal, decidió contratar un grupo de expertos norteamericanos para que le ayuden a mejorar los números en las encuestas. Como una de las primeras estrategias de comunicación le recomendaron hacerse presente en las instalaciones de la UNAH, una institución que hasta el día de hoy se había mantenido al margen de las distintas actividades políticas del país.

Santos llegó para una premiación que se daría a los estudiantes de excelencia académica, se suponía que habría de dar un discurso en donde hablaría sobre el valor de la tolerancia, el estudio y el trabajo duro para el desarrollo de Honduras. Pero no logró hacerlo. Inmediatamente llegó un grupo de estudiantes lo recibió con pancartas y gritos de “Golpista”, “Asesino”, “Traidor”. El plan fue abortado y decidió retirarse del edificio; al salir fue recibido con agua y más gritos. Sus guarda espaldas, haciendo lo que saben hacer bien, sacaron sus armas amenazando a los estudiantes haciendo disparos al aire, las imágenes muestra como seis de los hombres de Santos se lanzan sobre un joven estudiante golpeándolo con la cacha de sus pistolas. La imagen ya está en el internet, y Santos sigue cayendo, creo que los asesores de imagen no supieron hacer su trabajo tan bien como los guardaespaldas.

El día de hoy los mismos estudiantes que recibieron a Elvin Santos el día de ayer organizaron una toma de la avenida que pasa frente al campus universitario. Minutos después de haber iniciado la toma llegaron los cuerpos represivos del comando cobra quienes inmediatamente se dispusieron a desalojar la toma. La batalla duró varios minutos, los estudiantes, buscando refugio ingresaron a la Universidad confiados en lo que por años ha sido un terreno impenetrable para la policía. Pero de poco sirvió esta vez la autonomía universitaria, los cobras entraron hasta el campus persiguiendo y golpeando a todo el que se encontraba a su paso. La rectora Julieta Castellanos, junto con demás personal de la dirección académica, intelectuales y profesionales respetados a nivel internacional precisamente por su postura neutra en el conflicto, salieron de sus oficinas para hablar con los oficiales a cargo del operativo y pedirles que respeten las instalaciones de la UNAH, fueron recibidos con golpes, empujones y más bombas. Julieta Castellanos, Rectora de la máxima casa de estudio del país, fue golpeada por varios agentes antimotines que seguramente no han terminado la educación primaria, los agentes le gritaban, mientras daban golpes a los académicos, que estaban cansados de tanta mierda, que ya no les importaba nada y les iban a caer a quien ellos quieran.

La Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras, institución que antaño se conoció por una de las más beligerantes de la vida política nacional, había tomado la determinación de no apoyar la resistencia y encaminar su esfuerzo en recuperar la excelencia académica que se ha perdido. Nuevamente es la misma policía que hace el trabajo de aglutinación de los sectores en un solo bloque. Bienvenidos compañeros universitarios al Frente de Resistencia contra el Golpe de Estado.

Por otro lado y como una estrategia de denuncia contra el golpe, la resistencia decidió manchar lo que más le duele a la clase golpista: su dinero. Cientos de billetes circulan ahora con consignas de “no al golpe”, “fuera Micheletti” entre otras. El Banco Central, en comunicado por los principales medios de radio y televisión, anunció que no aceptará ningún billete marcado y que procedería contra las personas de la resistencia que carguen dichos billetes porque, según los economistas, es un atentado contra la economía nacional y podrá procederse penalmente.

Hoy comenzó la gran marcha de la resistencia que llegara a las principales ciudades el próximo martes. El gobierno se resiste a caer pero todos sabemos no podrán sostenerse mucho más tiempo.
