It was widely and falsely reported after the coup that the Honduran Congress unanimously supported the coup and endorsed Micheletti as interim president. In truth, numerous diputados were excluded from the extraordinary Sunday session of Congress, known of in advance by coup supporters and attended by illegally voting non-members of Congress, at which this endorsement took place. Many of them have since openly spoken out against the coup, risking life and limb to do so. Many others have not dared speak out, for that very reason. Some, including Javier Hall, have themselves been beaten by the coup military for their defense of the democratic process. The following is a partial list of outspoken coup opponents in the Honduran Congress, given to me yesterday by #17 on the list:
Liberal Party
Democratic Unification Party (UD)
